One Word Breakdown is a YouTube talk show series hosted by C1 and C2, two sisters who were separated by their parents’ divorce at 8 and 14. Each episode of One Word Breakdown features a stream of consciousness—all inspired by one word.
C1 was six years old when a newborn C2 was placed in her arms. C1 was the first of the kids to hold the new baby, primarily because she insisted. C2 was the best friend that C1 was convinced was on her way. As children, C1 and C2 shared a room (by choice!). They came up with games to play until late into the night, including one where you lift your arm into the air until you “fall asleep,” which was typically indicated by the slow and graceful flutter of a falling child arm. For eight years, the two girls were inseparable. Then, on August 2, 1992, C2 moved across the state with Mom. C1 (and their two brothers) stayed with Dad.
C1 did her best to stay connected to C2, sending letters and voice recordings (on cassette!), visiting when she was old enough. When cell phones became widely accessible, C1 sent C2 a phone so they could call each other without paying long distance fees. Cell calls during nights and weekends (it was cheaper!) eventually became the incessant texts and FaceTime calls that characterize their relationship today.
Having weathered together their teenage and college years, marriages, leaving the Mormon Church, having children, the death of a daughter/niece, many forms of abuse, everyday heartache, intense joy, and everything in between, they know each other incredibly well, as you might guess. Imagine their shock when they realized there was still more to learn?!
One Word Breakdown proves these two can talk about anything at all and nothing at all! It helps that they’re both talkative Geminis. Just give them a word, any word, and watch. them. GO.
